A blog post on the physiology of the human body by P. Trecaguerres, and it's fourth edition. This book is a comprehensive and detailed book on human anatomy and how it works to keep us alive and well. The author offers a thorough overview of all the important bodily systems including cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, reproductive, digestive, endocrine and neural system among others. This introduction could lead into a discussion about what makes this book different from other textbooks or its history in textbook publishing. One main difference between this book and other textbooks is that it is so in depth. When compared to other college level physiology textbooks, this textbook is by far one of the most professional looking when it comes to its appearance, layout and the topics covered. This textbook takes on a scholarly look in comparison to other textbooks. Other college level text books are often printed with thinner paper where as "Trecaguerres" uses a heavier grade of paper that is more durable and has better construction. The book was designed for 15-20 years worth of studying where it can withstand being handled by countless students. The book's chapter topics are arranged in an interesting way that captures the reader's attention immediately. The way the chapters are set up follows the same chronological order of events within the body. A person begins with how breathing happens, actions leading to blood circulation, etc. A person could learn about how an organ functions, what it does and where it is located. Likewise a person could read more about the end of the processes that happen in that part of an organism or read about what happens after something occurs in that part of an organism. The textbook is also different than other textbooks in that it divides topics into various smaller sections or "chapters". These smaller sections or "chapters" discussed above are much better when compared to larger discussions on one thing such as "Human Respiration" vs "Respiration in Organisms. From the beginning, the book divides topics on specific organs, systems or functions such as blood. The content of this textbook on human anatomy is unique and the author offers a more thorough explanation of how each system works than most textbooks. This textbook has a unique layout and offers some interesting features not seen in other text books. The textbook makes it very easy to find information on each topic and offers some unique features that set it apart from other textbooks such as sidebars and sprinkled throughout that add depth and understanding to the text. This is one factor that helps make this book stand out from others. The table of contents was also created in an interesting way by splitting up chapters by organ systems. You could easily pinpoint where something is mentioned just by looking at the table of contents. The author also has illustrations scattered throughout the book to help explain certain topics. These illustrations are helpful in understanding what something looks like and its function. The book also offers some unique features such as the referencing system where you can look up other additional sources of information on a topic or body part. This is very useful if you want to read up on something more in depth, but the textbook only offers a brief overview of it. Another interesting feature offered by this textbook is that it allows for studying outside of class because it was designed to be used over long periods of time (15-20 years). eccc085e13
